Music Therapy at Saint Louis Forensic Treatment Center

We welcome university affiliated interns and are dedicated to providing the highest quality of clinical supervision as dictated by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) and the Certification Board for Music Therapist (CBMT).
We are proud to be currently affiliated with:
-
Drury University (Springfield, MO)
-
Maryville University (St. Louis, MO)
-
St. Mary-of-the-Woods College (Terre Haute, IN)
-
University of Kansas (Lawrence, KS)

Don't see your school? That's okay! We are always willing to work with new schools!

Details:
-
Our internship is currently an unpaid internship.
-
Interns are supervised by music therapists that have been certified by the Certification Board for Music Therapists.
-
Interns work 1,040 hours alongside our music therapists during typical day shifts (8:00am-4:30) but we can provide some flexibility. As it is unpaid, we respect the need to generate income and maintain personal wellness during your experience.
-
We are currently able to accommodate one intern at a time.
-
We are currently university affiliated only - if your school does not have an affiliation agreement with FTC, we are happy to make that happen!
-
We require all applicants complete our online internship application within given deadlines (see information below)
-
We require an in-person interview or tele-interview.

As an intern at St. Louis Forensic Treatment Center, you can
expect to gain experience in areas including but not limited to:
Working with
an interdisciplinary
treatment team
Using an electronic
medical record for
documentation
Facilitating large and small treatment groups
Facilitation individual
treatment sessions
Creating and
collaborating in a
recording studio
Organizing and leading facility-wide groups
and events
If at all possible, we would like all interested students to shadow our staff for the day before they apply to the internship. Since we are a 24/7 facility, we are able to accommodate shadowing during all week days, including during school breaks. All full-time music therapists at FTC work during day shifts. Although we would prefer if students shadow for the full day, we are able to accommodate half-day shadowing. Please email FTCMusicTherapy@gmail.com to schedule!
